Haul Roads - Meeting the Challenge

Considered one of the most difficult applications, haul road dust is tough to control due to the constant wear and tear from heavy mining vehicles. From washboarding to reduced tire traction from constant watering, mine haul roads need to be protected not only for maximum safety for employees, but continued productivity and use of the roads. The EPA states that unpaved haul road dust generate the majority of dust emissions from surface mining sites, accounting for approximately 78-97% of total dust emissions. The dust from a haul road causes safety hazards by creating low visibility and by creating PM10 & PM2.5 emissions which causes a great health hazard for all workers, especially if silica is present. The most common solution for controlling dust on a haul road is hourly watering. It is considered a cheap, easy and short-term solution to a long-term problem.

We offer two solutions for haul road application, the first offers an addition to the watering schedule and the second addresses the more severe conditions.

EnviroClear makes for a perfect additive to your haul road watering schedule, producing "wetter water." Made up of a highly concentrated biodegradable organic wetting agents, EnviroClear sharply reduces the surface tension of water at very low concentrations. Penetrating at deep rates, EnviroClear has a residual effect each time applied, thereby allowing for lower usage rates of water and product with continued use.

HaulTac was designed for severe haul roads that need a long-term solution. HaulTac binds fines together to hold larger aggregate into place to make a stable, dust free road base. For superior results, a single application with mixing and reshaping followed by subsequent topical applications over time for maintenance is recommended.
